First Nations Leaders Convene in Calgary for the Special Chiefs Assembly on Long-Term Reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program

(October 9, 2024 – Unceded Algonquin Territory, Ottawa, Ontario) – From October 16-18, 2024, First Nations Chiefs, Proxies, Veterans, Knowledge Keepers, youth, women, and other participants will convene for the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Special Chiefs Assembly (SCA) on Long-Term Reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Program. The event will be held on Treaty No. 7 Territory at the BMO Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

The SCA will focus on the Draft Agreement for long-term reform of the FNCFS Program. Chiefs and Proxies will have the chance to discuss and vote on the proposed reforms. The event will also feature expert panels, guest speakers, and presentations on the funding model, governance, and among other topics.
