Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Welcomes New Chief Executive Officer Andrew Bisson Friday 27 September 2024 08:45 PM UTC+00 | Tags: press-release (September 27, 2024 – Unceded Algonquin Territory, Ottawa) – The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is pleased to announce the hiring of Andrew Bisson as the new incoming Chief Executive Officer, effective September 30, 2024. Mr. Bisson is a member of M'Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. "On behalf of the AFN Executive Committee, we extend a warm welcome to Mr. Bisson," said National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak. “Andrew is a dedicated advocate for First Nations priorities and will lead the AFN well during this exciting and critical time. His proven leadership skills and deep understanding of strategic policy will greatly benefit our progress. I look forward to working closely with Andrew to achieve our many shared goals." Mr. Bisson previously served as the Director of Health at the Assembly of First Nations since August 2021. He holds a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University and a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in Public Administration and Governance from Toronto Metropolitan University. Mr. Bisson has also held a leadership role in his community of M'Chigeeng and taught university courses for First Nations students across Ontario through the First Nations Technical Institute. ―30― The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is a national advocacy organization that works to advance the collective aspirations of First Nations individuals and communities across Canada on matters of national or international nature and concern.
