"First Nations traditional knowledge is an invaluable resource that has served our Nations since the beginning of time," said National Chief Woodhouse Nepinak. "An international agreement that protects First Nations traditional knowledge and creates greater transparency for those seeking to applying for intellectual property rights based on First Nations knowledge on the world stage is a tremendous step forward. This conference is the culmination of decades of advocacy from First Nations and other Indigenous groups to preserve and revitalize rich cultural traditions."
